History:

Key Club is the oldest high school service organization in the world and it has a rich and proud history. In 1925, to members of the Sacramento Kiwanis Club came up with an idea to start a high school service group, modeled after their own club. Their first meeting was held in May of 1925 and the Key Club organization was invented. As word of this new and exciting club spread, other Kiwanis Clubs wanted to start their very own Key Club. Soon after, Florida formed the first district in Key Club history and the first international president elected was Malcolm Lewis.
In 1952, over 1,000 clubs ere chartered and in 1967, the first international Key Clubs were chartered in Nassau and the Bahamas. In 1977, female students were finally allowed to join. Several historic events continued to be seen as Michelle McMillen became the first female president in 1991 and  when the first international website was created in 1997. Today there are over 266,000 Key Club members in 30 countries all over the world!
After all this, one thing has not changed. Just like it was from the start, Key Club is dedicated to teaching the youth of this age to serve the world and the communities around them. The goal has, and always will be, to change lives all over the world and make a difference in the youth of today.
